NSW public school information
This page includes updates and messages from the NSW Department of Education. It brings together content that applies to families of all NSW public schools.
Staff are to follow the RHHS Behaviour Management Flowchart when dealing with any issues that arise in and out of the classroom. The student version of the Behaviour Management Flowchart is to be used in consultation with students when addressing any issues of behaviour, and can be found in every classroom.

Raising Responsibility
Staff at Rouse Hill High School are committed towards establishing positive classroom environments conducive to learning through the use of routines and positive interactions that focus upon choice and the provision of critical feedback.
The Raising Responsibility model is a key aspect used to promote student reflection and self-awareness. Teachers support students to identify behaviour that is ‘above the line’ or ‘below the line’, assisting individuals to monitor and adjust their own behaviour.
Staff encourage all students to strive towards operating at the ‘D level’, this involves demonstrating a high level of self-drive and enthusiasm for learning consistent with intrinsic motivation. Students operating at the ‘A level’ are provided additional methods of support to maintain our positive learning environments.
The Raising Responsibility model is reflected in the Behaviour Management Flowchart and is used to establish positive ongoing behaviours through the teacher monitoring card process.
School frameworks (school rules)
As well as following the department’s operational policies, we have developed frameworks for our students in line with our school’s values and commitments.
Attendance and absences
Students must attend school regularly so they can achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options.
In NSW, all children from the age of 6 are legally required to attend school or be registered for home schooling through the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). All students must complete Year 10, or its equivalent.
Young people below the age of 17 who have completed Year 10 must be:
- in school, or registered for home schooling
- in approved education or training, such as a traineeship, apprenticeship or TAFE
- in full-time paid employment (average 25 hours a week)
- in a combination of work, education and/or training (average of 25 hours a week combined).
Students 17 years and over who are enrolled in school must attend school regularly to meet HSC course requirements.
As a parent or carer, you are responsible for ensuring your child attends school every day when they are of compulsory school age. You must explain all absences to the school within 7 days.
