Religion and ethics

NSW schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics. Approved providers deliver these, where available.

Write to the school if you wish to withdraw your child from special religious education, sometimes known as scripture. Special education in ethics is an option for your primary-age child if you withdraw them from special religious education. For more information, visit Religion and ethics.

Special Religious Education classes (SRE) are provided in public schools during school time by authorised representatives of approved religious groups. ‘Kellyville and Rouse Hill Christian Education Employer’ (KARHCEE) and the Catholic Diocese of Parramatta provide SRE at Rouse Hill High School. Rouse Hill churches linked include: Anglican, Assembly of God, Baptist, Catholic, Church of Christ, Lutheran, New Life, Seventh Day Adventist, Salvation Army, Uniting Church and Independent.

The curriculum used by KARHCEE and the Catholic Diocese can be accessed using these links.

Attendance at SRE is voluntary and schools organise SRE according to parent wishes and the demands of the religious provider.

Students who have indicated that they would like to attend scripture lessons will do so once a fortnight. Remaining students will do revision, homework or private study during this time.

Students can change their nominated SRE class, or withdraw or join SRE class with written permission from their parent or carer.
