NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.
During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.
You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.
Special Religious Education classes (SRE) are provided in public schools during school time by authorised representatives of approved religious groups.
Combined Christian SRE teachers are from local churches, students ask questions, explore the Bible and discover the Good News of Jesus Christ and what it means to be a Christian in our world today. Lessons are age-appropriate, fun and inclusive.
Combined Christian SRE is provided by teachers who are authorised and trained by the following approved providers: Anglican Diocese of Sydney, Churches of Christ in NSW & Baptist Union of NSW. The curriculum can be viewed at whysre.com.au.
Attendance at SRE is voluntary.
Students who have indicated that they would like to attend scripture lessons will do so once a fortnight. Remaining students will do revision, homework or private study during this time.
Students can join or withdraw from the SRE class by completing a form, obtained from Rouse Hill High School administration office.
